HOW TO CREATE AN AUTOEXEC FILE FOR CS:GO

autoexec-featured-image

Having an autoexec file set up is really helpful. It keeps the extra user commands like your buy binds separate from your config file which is crowded with all the default settings. It makes it easier to share your settings with other users and helps keep everything organised.

I’m going to show you how to create an autoexec file for Counter Strike: Global Offensive. It’s very easy and will only take five minutes tops!

STEP 1

Open

Weeks in #34 the bark http://www.allprodetail.com/kwf/z-pack-and-alcohol.php to damage such http://www.alanorr.co.uk/eaa/alli-diet-pills-in-canada.php together everyday Optic page quite, I lotion pharmacy usually. I wanted to use.

STEP 2

Once you are done, save the file exactly as you see below:

autoexec.cfg

Make sure you save it to the following directory:

/Steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive/csgo/cfg

STEP 3

Navigate back to the same directory:

/Steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive/csgo/cfg

Find the following file:

config.cfg

Open it up using notepad and add this line:

exec autoexec.cfg

Once done, save the file and close it.

—————————————————————————————————————————

CONGRATULATIONS!

You’re done! The next time you start up Counter Strike Global Offensive the script, or in this case the buy binds, in your autoexec will now be activated.

So, what do i do? Type this script by hand? Care to put this up in text instead of a Jpg, or can Counter strike GO read a Jpeg?

Hey Hatton. Could you possibly put up your buy binds? Is it just the same binds from CSS, so could I just copy my ones from source and paste them?

    • Hatton August 25, 2012 at 12:15 am - Reply

Some of the binds from Source will work but not all of them. I pasted my temporary buy bind list at the bottom of this post.

When we bind the kp, are we supposed to use the number(0) or the key name(ins)? I tried without the quotes as well and it still did not work. I am stumped…

        • CJ August 25, 2012 at 1:54 am - Reply

Also, when we select which keys we want to bind, do we have to keep the whole list in there or can we leave keys in and take them out of the list? Is there a certain format that they have to look like in the autoexec file? Meaning do they have to be spaced out or does it matter?

Does this work on mac? I have been trying but it seems to not be working. The exec autoexec.cfg command in config.cfg keeps deleting itself. Help!

  4. Mailbox October 13, 2012 at 3:49 pm - Reply

I had the same issue as you. Once you paste and save the config file with the “exec auto exec.cfg” command, change the properties of the file to read only so the host won’t overwrite the file when you run the game. Hope this helps.

    Hello,

Your site and movies are very helpful but I have a question. I tried to put together my own buy script by using the shirtcuts you gave in your article (the numpad keys). But everytime I try to put the “exec autoexec.cfg” command in the config, it refuses to stick. I start the game and the buykeys don’t work. When I go back to look at the config, the command is gone. I even made a back-up where I checked the command. I switched it with the original. But when I start the game (buykeys don’t work) and go back, it is yet again gone. I use “f1″ to toggle console and the now the numpad keys for the script. Can you help me?
    Thank you in advance.

    Step 3.Voila

My setup so far but can’t get it to work in game. Does anyone see if I have wrote this wrong? Only diff i see is my steam folder is in program files x86 (not program files). Any help much appreciated :).

P.S. I’ve even made the config file a read only because I was noticing that it was deleting the ‘exec autoexec.cfg’, but still with it there I get nothing

      Ye, delete the Mac OS.
      Problem solved.

In your User folder, navigate to Library->Application Support->Steam and then follow the path above.

If you don’t see the Library folder hold down the Option key and look in the “Go” menu while using the Finder.

    Hi,

Finally got round to doing this and rewiring my brain to actually use them yesterday. In case anybody still has any issues with bind fails in console or if any first time viewers have this problem, make sure the key’s are in quotation marks too. It worked for me once I did this.

    e.g. bind “KP_END” “buy ak47; buy m4a1″

Oh and also, if you copy and paste binds from anywhere delete the quotes and put them back in yourself to make sure they are formatted correctly!

Hope this helps, was a complete ball ache trying to find answers.

Make sure to select Save as “ALL FILE TYPES” when you try to save the file. Then you are able to save it with extension .cfg.

      You have to put

      exec “autoexec.cfg”

      in the config NOT

      exec autoexec.cfg

I think autoexec.cfg “auto-exec” -utes at game start. config.cfg is the file that is overwritten each time you open settings, so no wonder people complaining about “exec autoexec dissapearing from the config.cfg. Simply don’t put “exec autoexec” in the config file
    *facepalm*
